Joining the Staff

The Military Cadets of Selfridge are always looking for good people interested in join our staff. The ACA Officer core is made up of non-paid, dedicated professionals who want to give back too, and help, the American youth. Although Military experience is not mandatory to join the ACA Officer Corps, is it preferred; but just having some knowledge of the Armed Forces will make it easier for you. We will work with you as long as you are willing to learn, and learn the Marine way. Those without a military background will be required to go through training and a mentoring program. Those with a military background will need minimal training or just sometime to adjust to how Marines do things. Either way, understand that Cadetting is a little different from regular Military service and everyone will need some training. Understand that all branches of the service are welcome but this is a Marine Company.

There are a few different options you have when joining the staff. You can join as an Instructor, Adult Non-Commissioned Officer, Warrant Officer, or apply to become a Commissioned Officer. We need individuals in all four levels of service and in all different job descriptions. While some of the categories of service are open to those without Military experience, others are only available to those with Military experience. We have many job positions open and/or need assistants for them. We are looking for people interested in Administration, Personnel, Supply, Recruiting, Public Affairs, and all different aspects of training.

All applicants must be Interviewed by the Commanding Officer and then if accepted those individuals desiring a commission or appointment in the Officers' Corps must go through a 6 to 12 month review period. The screening period is designed to give the Applicant or Officer Candidate (O/C) sufficient time to acquire program specific and military knowledge and attend training provided by the ACA Leadership Development Institute (LDI). During the screening period, the applicants can be dismissed from the ACA by the unit Commanding officer based on unsuitability for continued service.

Every member of the officer corps including instructors assumes responsibility for instruction and supervision of the Cadets. Each officer is inherently charged with the health and welfare of every young adult enrolled in the ACA.

* Active duty and reserve personnel are required to complete a six-month screening period. All others must complete up to a year or more depending on how fast they learn.
