Become a Cadet


To become a U.S. Army Cadet you need to meet certain requirements and certain things are expected out of you.


Requirements to become a Cadet:

Requirements:
  • U.S. Citizen
  • Must have Parent/Legal Guardian Consent.
  • Ages 12 to 18 (Age 11 if enrolled in 6th grade)
  • Weight proportional to Height.
  • Physically fit.
  • Able to pass a "Sports type" Physical Exam by a Doctor.
  • "C" average or higher in School.
  • No police record.
Disqualifiers:
  • No Parent/Legal Guardian Consent.
  • Overly Obese.
  • Not able to perform basic physical exercises.
  • On any behavior controlling medications.
  • Failing in school.
  • In trouble with the Law.
  • Doing Drugs.


What we expect out of you:
We expect that you will come aboard with the attitude and the desire to learn and do. We expect you to put forth 100% effort in everything asked of you. We expect you to be at drill every mouth on time and to attend Annual Training every year. We expect you to come to drill with the proper hair cut and all your uniforms and gear. We expect you to always conduct yourself in a manor deserving of the uniform you have on.

What you can expect your first drill:
Your first drill will be very confusing to you. You will have many people shouting at you and telling you what to do. You will be learning new terms and a new way of doing things. You will no doubt be very nervous, but remember, every cadet that came before you has gone through the same thing. If you do what you are told when you are told you will be fine and do very well.

Enlistment Procedures:
  • All 7 ACA forms must be filled out and the enrolment fee paid before your can start your training.
  • All adult signatures must be signed in front of and witnessed by a unit staff member or be notarized.
  • All fees are to be paid by check made out to: "Military Cadets of Selfridge" or just "MCS".

Undecided?
If you're undecided, you may spend part of a drill with us to help you get an idea of what you can expect. To make these arraignments contact one of our Recruiters or e-mail us at SelfridgeUSACC@gmail.com. You will need to be accompanied by one of your parents or have the form below notarized to attend a drill. There may be a five dollar charge for food.


Leaving the Program:
  • Cadets are dis-enrolled at age 18 or the completion of High School, which ever comes later.
  • Cadets can leave the program at any time with consent from their Parents/Guardians. No refund of any fees or cost is given.
  • A Cadet may be dis-enrolled from the program at anytime for disciplinary reasons by the Commanding Officer of the Unit or Annual Training. No refund of any fees or cost is given.
  • A Cadet may be dis-enrolled from the program for lack of participation by the Unit Commanding Officer. A cadet is automatically dis-enrolled after three consecutive un-excused absences from drill. No refund of any fees or cost is given. If the cadet decides that they would like to come back to the unit after leaving or being dis-enrollment for lack of participation, they are required to pay or re-pay the re-enrollment fee.
  • Cadets have the option of selling their uniforms and gear after they leave the program to other cadets or to the unit.
